Yet Jesus did not answer them all with the same response.
He saw the heart. He tested the motivation. He knew who came to learn and who came to justify himself.
For the self-confident person, the law will only become a mirror that brings shame.
The law is not for boasting.
The law exists so that we realize:
“I am sinful, I am blind, and I need God’s mercy.”
Look at David, look at the tax collector, look at Bartimaeus crying out:
“Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!”
They did not bring a list of achievements.
They brought a confession of their need.
Questions for Your Heart
And now allow me to ask you:
What do you fear most?
Becoming someone blinded by pride?
Being divided by idols within the heart?
Or becoming so busy pursuing the world’s bread that you forget the Bread of Life?
A person who says,
“I fear all of them, because I know my heart is weak and easily shaken”
is someone whose fragrance is pleasing before God.
Because
The person who trusts the strength of his own heart has already lost.
The person who does not trust his own heart will cling to God and be safe.
The Lord Jesus never expected us to be strong.
He only asks us to abide in Him.
Weakness is not the problem.
We are dust.
The problem comes when we forget that we are weak… and begin to feel that we can run without Him.
Let Us Pray Together
Father, draw my heart close to You.
Without You I am lost.
Hold me, for I am unable to keep myself.
Make my weakness the place where Your strength is revealed.
For a heart that trembles before God is safer than a proud heart that feels capable.
Remain small before Him,
and you will walk greatly in His grace.
