DEVOTIONAL NO. 26 GRACE & SALVATION

Paid in Full: No Need to Pay Again!

Stop trying to pay for what has already been paid. Your receipt has been stamped PAID IN FULL by His blood.

Imagine inviting your friends to a large meal at a restaurant. When the bill arrives, you pay it in full. The cashier then gives you a receipt with a large red stamp: PAID IN FULL.

But as you are about to leave, a friend whispers, “Hey, perhaps we should leave some guarantee money too, just in case we are accused of stealing or arrested by the police later.”

It sounds ridiculous, does it not? If it has been paid in full, then it is finished.

Offering “guarantee money” would actually insult the payment that has already been made. It would mean that our friend does not believe the receipt in our hands is valid.

01

A Perfect Status

Many of us live the Christian life with this “guarantee money” mentality. We know that Jesus died on the cross, yet we still feel we must “add” something—whether forced good deeds or excessive fear—so that God will truly accept us.

Hebrews 10:14 firmly says that by one sacrifice—His blood—He has made those who are being sanctified perfect forever.

Notice the two key words:

Perfect: This speaks about our legal status before God. In the eyes of the Judge, there is no longer any defect or blemish on us.

Forever: This is not a salvation that appears and disappears. The payment remains permanently valid.

02

Living without Fear

Humanity’s greatest fear is usually: “Am I good enough to stand before the Most Holy God?”

The answer is: No, we will never be good enough.

But the good news is that our confidence does not come from what we do, but from what He has finished. Jesus did not make a “down payment” on our salvation; He paid it in full. Your receipt has been stamped PAID IN FULL by His blood.

So stop trying to pay for what has already been paid. Stand upright, not because of our greatness, but because of the perfection of His sacrifice.

03

A Short Prayer

Lord, thank You that in Jesus, my status has been made perfect forever. Teach me to walk with confidence and without fear, because I know that my debt of sin has been paid in full. Amen.
