As for Me, You Are My Portion
As for me, in righteousness I will behold Your face; when I awake, I will be satisfied with Your likeness.
— Psalm 17:15
David does not ask to become the wealthiest person. In fact, in verse 14 he says,
“Lord, let those who make this world their portion enjoy everything the world can give. Let them be filled with possessions and leave them as an inheritance to their children.”
Then David closes his prayer with these beautiful words,
“But as for me… You are my portion. I want to behold Your face. I want to be satisfied by Your presence.”
Two Very Different Hearts
What a contrast between these two hearts.
One is satisfied when its storehouses are full.
The other only feels full when it encounters God.
The question is not, “Is it wrong to possess wealth?” Of course not. Wealth is a blessing that God may entrust to us.
The Deeper Question
The question goes much deeper.
If God asked you to choose only one… would your heart desire everything the world can give, or would it desire Him Himself?
For in the end, heaven is not its gold, its streets, or its crowns.
Heaven is the place where at last we will see the One we have loved all along.
May we be able to say with David when that day comes,
“Lord, You are my portion. You are more than enough for me.” ❤️
