A healed man stands joyfully at the bright gate of the temple

DEVOTIONAL NO. 19 HOPE

A Story from Acts 3

Keep waiting for God at the doorway of His presence; at the right time, an encounter with His love restores life.

A man lame from birth.
Every day, he was carried to beg at the gate of the temple.
For more than 40 years, he was trapped in a rigid body; he had never known what it felt like to have enough strength in his leg muscles simply to stand, let alone to leap.

01

The Gate Called “Beautiful”

Day after day, he held out his hand at the gate called “Beautiful.”
Yet perhaps in his heart he often complained.
How could he see the “beauty” of the world when his life was confined to dust on the floor and dependence on the mercy of strangers?

02

The Right Time

Yet there is a divine secret behind the name of that gate.
In Greek, the gate is called Ωραία (Hōraia), which also carries the meaning “the right time.”

There, after decades of paralysis, this man finally arrived at that “right time.”
His encounter with God’s love through Peter and John instantly changed the entire remainder of his life.
The healing he received from God made him leap to his feet, walk around, and jump while praising God. (verse 8)

03

Keep Waiting for God

Perhaps your days feel suffocating right now.
Problems arriving one after another make you feel “paralyzed” before the world.
Days turn into months, months turn into years, until perhaps you have forgotten what it feels like to step forward with joy.

But do not give up.
Keep waiting for God at the doorway of His presence.
At one “right time” (Hōraia), an encounter with God’s love will surely restore and completely transform your life.

Shalom, my great family in God.
