DEVOTIONAL NO. 21 PRAYER & WAITING ON GOD

When Our Hearts Align with God’s Heart

Let us continually set our hearts right so that every desire becomes increasingly aligned with His will.

Family in Christ,

Yesterday, our area was hit by a fairly severe flood, so the church moved its in-person service online. Yet the challenge did not end there; in the middle of the service, the electricity in our home suddenly went out. A flood combined with a power outage—anyone who has experienced it knows how uncomfortable the situation can be.

A Small Prayer during Worship

We continued worshiping through a mobile phone. Near the end of the service, I whispered in my heart, “Lord, how wonderful it would be if the electricity came back on when the service ended.” And amazingly, at the precise moment the closing prayer was spoken, the lights in our home instantly came back on.

Was this a coincidence? Certainly not. This simple event reminded me that He hears and provides even in matters we may consider trivial. Yet it also led me to reflect: if He cares so much about small things, why do some other prayers seem unanswered? His Word in James 4:3 (NIV) reminds us:

“...but you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.”

Examining the Depths of Our Hearts

Today, I want to invite all of us to examine the depths of our own hearts. What is our greatest motivation when we come to Him?

David is known as “a man after God’s own heart”—someone whose heart was aligned with God’s heart. The heart is the center of our deepest thoughts, the source of our words and actions. A crooked heart will produce a crooked path, but to those whose hearts sincerely love God, Jesus gives an extraordinary promise:

“...whatever you ask for in prayer, believing, you will receive.”

Matthew 21:22

Aligned with His Will

Let us continually set our hearts right so that every desire becomes increasingly aligned with His will. When our hearts are synchronized with His heart, we will see His provision flow, both in great storms and in the small seconds of our lives.

God bless you, and have a great week!
