Who is the foundation of your life?
Do you depend on your wealth?
Do you feel secure because of your connections with powerful people?
Do you believe that your intelligence, plans, and strength are enough to manage your life?
I Want to Tell You a Little Secret
Sometimes, God allows bad things to happen in our lives, not because He is angry or wants to punish us, but because He is disciplining us—with love. He wants to open our eyes to the truth that a life built without depending on Him will end in emptiness and separation from the Creator.
For a moment, imagine Hosea 2:5 and 2:13 as though God were speaking directly to you—perhaps while you are experiencing frustration right now:
“... I will hedge up your way with thorns, and build a wall around you, so that you cannot find your own paths...” “... But I will allure you, bring you into the wilderness, and speak tenderly to your heart.”
Sometimes we need to become lost so that we can be saved.
Sometimes we need to be disappointed by the idols in our lives so that we can finally know who the true God is.
