DEVOTIONAL NO. 24 KNOWING GOD’S CHARACTER

Precise Justice, Overflowing Mercy

God loves to give beyond what we ask, simply because He is generous.

Have you ever imagined a perfect leader? Someone whose anger never strikes the wrong target—it is directed only at injustice—yet at the same time is so generous that when he blesses one person, everyone in the room feels the effect.

The world may rarely have such a leader, but we have a God who far surpasses that standard.

01

A Blessing that “Spills Over”

Let us look at the story of the apostle Paul as he sailed toward Rome. In the middle of a raging storm, when everyone had thrown their hope into the sea, God promised that Paul would be saved.

Yet notice the beautiful detail: God did not only save Paul. He graciously gave (charizomai) the lives of everyone on that ship to Paul. There were soldiers on the ship, other prisoners, and perhaps people who were deceitful or indifferent toward God. Yet because they were in the “same boat” as God’s servant, all of them tasted salvation. (Acts 27)

02

Where Are You Today?

Perhaps today you are in Paul’s position: striving to carry out God’s assignment and experiencing His tangible protection. Keep moving forward, because your presence affects the people around you.

Or perhaps you feel like one of the “ordinary” passengers: you have no great spiritual achievements, yet you recognize that your life is still being preserved. Realize that this is God’s overflowing generosity. You are enjoying the “spray” of blessing because God deeply loves His servants.

Closing

Whatever your condition, remember this:
God’s judgment is just and will never strike the wrong target, but His mercy extends far beyond mere reward. He loves to give more than we ask simply because He is a generous God.

May you rest peacefully this weekend, whether you are the one carrying the message or the one “riding along” beneath the shelter of His love.

Have a blessed weekend!
