SAFETY: THE STARTING POINT, NOT THE END POINT
Shalom, God's beloved brother.
Many people think that salvation is the ultimate goal of the journey of faith—as if the whole spiritual life stops when one accepts Jesus. After being baptized, after being saved, they felt it was over. But actually, safety is not the end line. Safety is the starting line. The starting point of a great journey: a journey to spiritual maturity in the Kingdom of God.
When Jesus came to the world, He did not teach a new religion. He came with the royal proclamation. The word Injil in Greek means good news, and in Roman times the term was used when a new king ascended the throne. The messengers will go around the city shouting, "Good news! A new king has ascended the throne!” That is the meaning of the Gospel: not just spiritual news, but an announcement that the true King has come and His Kingdom is being established.
When Jesus began His ministry, He did not say, "Believe that you will enter heaven." He said,
"The time is due, the Kingdom of God is near. Repent and believe in the Gospel." (Mark 1:15)
This is not an invitation for humans to find a way to heaven, but a call to submit to the King who has come. The gospel is a divine declaration that a new government is being established; that there is a Kingdom that will replace the broken world system. Every time Jesus heals, every time He casts out evil spirits, He is affirming one thing: God's power is higher than the power of this world. Where Jesus reigns, there is the Kingdom of God.
However, if a new kingdom comes, surely the old kingdom will fight. Because the Kingdom of God came not in peacetime, but in the midst of war. Paul wrote,
"Because our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against governments, rulers, leaders of this dark world, and evil spirits in the air." (Ephesians 6:12)
We live in a seemingly peaceful world, but we are actually on a spiritual battlefield. This war is not visible to the eye, but evident in the human heart—between obedience to God or to the power of sin. And Jesus came not only to bring forgiveness of sins, but to free humans from the kingdom of darkness to enter the kingdom of light.
Therefore, brother, the Gospel is not only about being saved from hell, but about who is your king today. Does Jesus really rule your life? Do you live as a citizen of His kingdom, or are you still part of the old world? Because whoever is under the rule of King Jesus, he no longer lives for himself, but for the King who has redeemed him.
The Hebrew writer reminds us that many believers remain spiritual babies. They continued to depend on spiritual milk—the basic teachings of salvation, repentance, and the promise of eternal life—but never grew into hard food.
"Because everyone who still needs milk does not understand the teaching of truth, because he is still a baby. But hard food is for adults, who because they have five senses trained to distinguish good from evil." (Hebrews 5:13–14)
It means, salvation is not the end of the story of faith, but the beginning of the process of spiritual maturation.
After being saved, we must learn to know the King's voice, learn to walk with Him, learn to obey, and learn to fight against sin. Because in that war our faith is strengthened and our character is purified.
Paul rebukes the congregation that is still alive according to the flesh, who are jealous, who quarrel, who are easily offended. He said,
"Doesn't that show that you are still a mortal and living like a normal human being?" (1 Corinthians 3:3)
Even though we are no longer ordinary humans. We are God's spiritual children. (Romans 8:14, Philippians 3:20)
The Holy Spirit has marked us as belonging to the Kingdom of Heaven. But that sign must be followed by a worthy life—with real maturity. We cannot continue to live in the old way while claiming to be citizens of the new Kingdom.
Brother, spiritual maturity does not come automatically. He grows through practice—through obedience, suffering, and small decisions every day. God trains us like a father trains his child, so that we become like Christ. Sometimes He allows pressure, not to destroy, but to form. The same fire that burns straw, actually refines gold. This is the baptism of fire—the process of purification that shapes us into strong and loyal royal soldiers.
Because our calling is not only to be citizens of the Kingdom, but to be the bearer of the power and presence of the King himself in this dark world. The world will not know God through theory, but through the lives of believers who radiate His love, truth, and power. That's why Jesus said,
"Let your light shine before people, so that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven." (Matthew 5:16)
Dear brother, salvation is the gateway to royal life. But don't stop at the door. Come in, grow, fight, and fulfill the divine calling in your life. Because Jesus not only came to save us from sin, but to make us like Him—the little kings under the King of kings.
So today, let us hear the heavenly proclamation again:
"The time is due! The Kingdom of God is near! Repent and believe in the Gospel!"
Repent—turn away from the old path.
Believe me—submit your heart to the living King.
And live as a true citizen of the Kingdom: not only waiting for heaven, but bringing heaven to earth through life led by the King.
Because salvation is not the end of our story—it is the beginning of a new life, living under the rule of the true King, Jesus Christ the Lord.
Amen.
