The Secret of the Kingdom Revealed to Those Who Thirst for Him
📜 Introduction: Jesus Never Talks Empty
Shalom, God's beloved brothers and sisters.
Jesus, the Master of Nazareth, never spoke carelessly. He did not teach just to give insight, but He revealed the secrets of the Kingdom of God through his every word. His words are full of symbols, full of depth, and only those who are given understanding by the Holy Spirit can capture their deepest meaning.
He spoke the way Jews spoke — in layers. So today we will dive into the Four Layers of God's Word — known in the Hebrew tradition as PARDES.
🌳 Four Layers of Word – PARDES
We should not be satisfied with just reading the Bible on the surface. The Word of God is like a garden (pardes) with hidden fruits of truth.
Peshat (פשט) – What is seen on the surface.
Remez (רמז) – A clue, symbol, or shadow of something bigger.
Derash (דרש) – Application and spiritual interpretation.
Sod (סוד) – A mystery revealed by the Holy Spirit, an understanding that can only be received through revelation.
The classic example:
"I am the bread of life." (John 6:35)
If only on the surface, Jesus sounds like a weirdo. But if we dig — wow, the fire of truth explodes from behind that word.
🔥 Introductory Illustration: Two Types of Bread
Let's imagine we're sitting together in the wilderness. We are hungry. We need bread.
But there are two types of hunger:
Physical bread for the body.
Spiritual bread for the soul.
Jesus offered the bread that came down from heaven — not to fill the stomach, but to give eternal life. And His words constantly invite us to seek that deepest meaning.
📖 Three Conversations with Double Meaning
Let's explore 3 conversations that will burn our hearts if we allow the Holy Spirit to dive into the depths of his sod:
1. 🧔 Meeting with Nicodemus (John 3:1–10)
Peshat: "Reborn" — sounds strange. Nicodemus is confused, should it go back into the uterus?
Remez: Jesus points to birth from above (anōthen), not just from the flesh.
Sod: Birth by the Spirit – an inner transformation that only occurs by divine work.
2. 💧 Samaritan Woman (John 4:1–26)
Peshat: "Living water" - women think about physical water.
Remez & Derash: Jesus talks about the Holy Spirit — water that flows from the living heart.
Sod: He is proclaiming himself as the Messiah — to a non-Jewish woman!
3. 🍞 Bread of Life (John 6:25–59)
Peshat: People think Jesus talks about bread like manna.
Derash & Sod: He is declaring His sacrifice, His body, His blood.
Only those who eat and drink from Him (believe and unite in His sacrifice) will live forever.
📱 Illustration for Children: HP that Runs Out of Battery
We can also help children understand:
If we are not connected to the Source (Jesus, Bread of Life), we will die spiritually, just like a cellphone without a battery.
Jesus doesn't just give food — He is the source of life itself.
🧠 Prophetic Message and Call
What we read in the Bible is not just history. This is the secret of the kingdom that is being revealed to those who want to come and are thirsty.
Every time we read the Bible without the Holy Spirit, we only get the surface. But when we allow God to speak, letters become flames.
"Don't our hearts burn when He explains the scriptures to us on the street?" (Luke 24:32)
Jesus doesn't just want us to understand the Word. He wants us to meet Him in the Word.
🙏 Closing in Prayer
Holy Father,
Teach us to read Your Word not only with our brains, but with a burning spirit.
Let us see Jesus, the Bread of Life, behind every word.
Burn our hearts with Your fire that cleanses and ignites.
In the name of Yeshua the Rabbi, the Word who became man, we pray.
Amen.
